Pimped Out

music, mymusic
Back in it again!
I'm still writing and recording my own music, even though I have a serious problem with going from 80% to 100%. I have about a half dozen songs at 80% right now.
But in the last month or so, I've been a little distracted by getting together with Corey and Mike to play music, like we were doing five years ago. Mike rented a practice space off of University Avenue, Corey moved his drums from his basement, where they didn't get any use, to the space, and suddenly - here we are!
Mike has been busy, shall we say "adding value" to the original space he rented. In the last two weeks, we've acquired:
- Extra carpet remnants on three of the four walls.
- A 10x2 foot whiteboard mounted at eye level on the far wall (with dry erase markers)
- A box fan (that was Corey's)
- A nice metal coat rack near the door, and another for hanging cables and cords.
- A shelf along the near wall for various junk.
- A work desk made out of some quick plywood & bracket purchases at Menards, to hold the PA.
- An old desktop computer underneath with Ableton Live installed.
- A Live6 ADC with USB out, for the computer.
- A rat's nest of cables hooking all the electronics together (we just figured it out last night.)
And the most important part,
- A mini-fridge, for the beer of course!
Mike also bought a bass and bass amp, since he's wanted to have one, but... conveniently... I know how to play bass. So it all works out. We're all still out of practice (except perhaps Mike), but we've been down there at least twice a week and are having a great time so far. It helps that it's a bit of the man-cave vibe.
Unfortunately, Mike and I will be stuck with the "j-hole drummer" for a while. Corey had surgery on his ankle yesterday and isn't feeling so good, to say the least. I don't know how invasive it was, but I'm going to visit him tomorrow and hear the gory details.
