Playing Media Files
If you're having trouble viewing or playing media files on this site, here are some tips and technical information.
Music
All music on this site is offered in one preview format and three download formats:
| Preview | 64kb AAC (MP4) | Supported by most major media players on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. |
| Downloadable AAC | 160kb AAC (MP4) | Supported by most major media players on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Suitable for iTunes and most modern mobile devices. This is the best option unless you prefer MP3s for compatibility. |
| Downloadable MP3 | 256kb MP3 | Supported by all major media players on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Suitable for iTunes and all mobile devices. This is the most widely compatible format. |
| Downloadable FLAC | Lossless | Partial media player support. This is a lossless codec that provides the best quality at the expense of large file sizes, but may not play on some media players and is not suitable for mobile devices. |
Video
All video on this site is offered in Quicktime format. The video codec is H.264 with AAC audio, which offers the best compression quality for the file size. It's also ready for direct transfer to an iPhone or iPod touch. The following software should be supported for playing these videos in your browser:
| Windows | Quicktime, Windows Media Player 9 or higher. |
| Mac OS X | Quicktime. |
| Linux | MPlayer, VLC, Amarok. |
All videos can be downloaded and played offline as well.
Because of both time and bandwidth considerations, I am not planning to offer video in other formats. However, multiple sizes may be available, depending on the video; e.g., web, SD and HD.
